Talking about Open Source and Online Tools to support Integration

* Share solutions being used, what needs they are meeting, and how they were implemented
* Form a network of users for future collaboration- collate a list of groups already organized (K12, Elgg, Second Life, Drupal, etc)
* Brainstorm integration problem areas and open source or online solutions

Topic: "Strategic Support for Open Source Software and Materials
Brief description: Open Source use needs to be expanded and delivered to school districts, but the marketing campaign for Open Source needs to compete at the level of commercial products, i.e., based upon benefits and advantages; not based on the usual "selling points" of Open Source..."cheap and free."

Free or Low cost Open Source Software/Web 2.0
- SteveHargadon SteveHargadon I think I'd like to have a BOF just for Open Source/FLOSS. While I'm interested in both topics, there's plenty to cover in FLOSS alone. I'd be glad to facilitate or co-facilitate the FLOSS meeting.
- sbetts sbetts: Sounds good, Steve. It would be great to have both of these, but NOT at the same time. We could direct folks from one to the other. I would like a Birds of a Feather that is not just Open Source (although I am a firm advocate). We need to include "free" web 2.0 tools and programs that are available (open source or not) at no cost to Education. Teachers need the tools and everyone has the issue of $$. I have had some contacts through email and it sounds like we have a group ready to participate. Sharon Betts
- billfitzgerald billfitzgeraldI'd be interested in these as well, and would be glad to lend a hand in putting something together.
Should we request a room - if so, how many participants would you assume?

The Best of Web 2.0 Tools and Services for Educators and Administrators

* What tools are you using and what successes are you having?
* How can services like Netvibes, Google Aps for your Domain, and others effect the role of technology in education?
* How have your overcome the manifold barriers to implementing these tools (from MySpace-phobia to technical work-arounds)?

Web 2.0 and Young Children
I work with young children, K-3 and I would like to see how blogs, wikis, podcasts, basically, web 2.0.... has been successfully used with young children. We have done a little with them, but I would like some new ideas and successful implementation stories.

Judy, perhaps you could join with me (see Coming of Age idea, below), because some of the people featured in that ebook have worked with very young children. Terry Freedman
Taking Coming of Age Further

* "Coming of Age" is now almost) in its second edition -- as an ebook or series of ebooks.
* It's also (partly) available as a podcast.
* How can it now be:

1. Expanded beyond the "printed" page or "one-way" audio?
2. Reflect the stuff it's about (let's face it: how can you have a book about Web 2.0 anyway?!)
3. Taken in new and exciting/innovative, more creative directions?

* And who is gonna do what?

I've had some great suggestions made to me, so I know there's a huge potential here, so let's get on down!
Terry Freedman Poster session @ NECC
Terry, this seems like the next step, sort of "Practice what you Preach" kind of evolution. Perhaps rooms in TappedIn or SecondLife - or better yet the Coming of Age 3D virtual World - a place for Educators Sharon Session
Women of Web 2 -- People Using the Tools of Web 2.0
We would like to either team with Terry for COA2 or have our own session where all users of Web 2.0 Tools can come together to share ideas.
